AC LED DRIVER
SystematIC developed an application-specific and customer-specific IC that is used to drive multiple LED strings in a lamp module directly from the rectified mains. The high-voltage IC is suitable for all mains voltages and highly configurable so that it can be used for a wide range of LED applications. Furthermore, it features compatibility with conventional (TRIAC) dimmers.
Requiring only a small number of additional components (rectifier, fuse and surge-protect) the driver IC combined with LED strings makes a complete but low-cost and very reliable LED lamp.
This is a great example of our customer-interactive product development, where the customer produces the LED module and where SystematIC develops the IC and delivers the IC in volume production. A bare-die version as well as a TQFN mounted version have been released.
In the product definition and development continuous interaction with the customer resulted in the optimal LED module performance and flexibility. This has been achieved with a set of programmable features including analog dimming, temperature control and protections.
Some of the key aspects of this development are shown below. More technical background and details can be found in the case study.
